The Constantine Bay Area

Beaches:

The sandy Constantine Bay is 10 minutes’ walk from the house down the lane past the Stores. Beyond that Treyarnon Bay and Booby’s Bay, also surfing beaches, are nearby favourites with many rock pools for younger children. For swimming, Mother Ivy Bay and Harlyn Bay are more suitable. Other beaches are in driving distance.

Shopping:

The Constantine Bay Stores is an indispensable local shop boasting a wide range of food and drink, as is the store at Treyarnon Bay. Supermarkets for larger shops are located outside Padstow and Wadebridge. Tesco delivers to the house.

Padstow with its picturesque harbour is a 15-minute drive away, with a wide range of shops and restaurants.

Facilities:

Golfers have a championship course within a few hundred yards. It also has two nine-hole courses, one full length and the other a shorter course plus driving range, putting green and practice areas.

There are three tennis courts and a swimming pool at the club together with a spa.

Walking:

There are great local walks. Turn right at Constantine Bay for Booby’s Bay, Trevose Head with its blow hole, iconic lighthouse and views of the Quies (the islands in the Bay), the lifeboat station and Mother Ivy Bay. Turn left for Treyarnon Bay and the coves on the way to Porthcothan Bay. Further afield are the spectacular cliffs of Bedruthan Steps, with its beach available at low tide only. A forty-minute drive away is the walk from Port Quin to Port Isaac as is legendary Tintagel Castle.

Restaurants and pubs:

Padstow has the famous Rick Stein Restaurants and several other restaurants too. Nearby in St. Merryn there is the Farmers Arms, the Cornish Arms and the Olive Tree restaurant. The Golf Club serves good food throughout the year.

Further Afield:

Country Houses and gardens of Lanhydrock, Prideaux Place and Pencarrow are in easy range. The Eden Project and the Seal Sanctuary are both reasonable drives away.

Location and Getting There

By Road (PL28 8JQ):

Either:

  • Take the A30 from Launceston towards and past Bodmin
  • At Indian Queens take the A39 towards and past St Column Major
  • At the Winnards Perch roundabout take the first exit onto the B3274 towards Padstow
  • After under 4 miles take a small road to the left signed St. Merryn
  • At the village turn left at the X roads and then the first right to Constantine Bay and Trevose Golf Club
  • Swing round left past the Golf Club and after 200 yards opposite the Constantine Bay Stores turn left up a rough track. Seascape is the second property on the left

Or:

  • Come off the A30 for Bodmin and take the A389 towards Wadebridge
  • At the first roundabout, on the Wadebridge by-pass, take the second exit to join the A39 South across the Camel (two supermarkets are located at the far end of the bridge)
  • After two miles follow a turn right signed to Padstow via the small villages of St. Issey and Little Petherick
  • At the next junction turn right for Padstow and after approximately two miles turn left towards St. Merryn, avoiding Padstow
  • In St. Merryn go straight through the main X roads and after half a mile take the first right to Constantine Bay and Trevose Golf Club
  • Swing round left past the Golf Club and after 200 yards opposite the Constantine Bay Stores turn left up a rough track. Seascape is the second property on the left

By Rail:

There is a good service from London Paddington and Exeter to Bodmin Parkway.

Bodmin Parkway is about 45 minutes’ drive from Seascape although in the summer months allow at least an hour. There is a taxi service as well as a bus service to Padstow (you can catch a further bus to Constantine from Padstow, which drops you by the Constantine Bay Stores).

By Air:

There are a number of flights to Newquay from major UK cities. The airport is a short taxi ride from Constantine.
